The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. My absolute favorite date night is at the Santa Barbara Bowl, catch any band there for the best show. It is a fun way to enjoy the best of life when covid is over. I love to just roam around Santa Barbara and people watch. Sama Sama Kitchen, Santo Mezcal for a sit down Mexican Dinner. Brunch at Boathouse and must order the Bloody Mary (comes with bacon/shrimp). Make sure to find Twentyfour Blackbird chocolate and have a tasting. Hit up Project SB for a happy hour cocktail and snacks. Mony’s Tacos for lunch which is a must do in SB. Hook n Press Donuts with a Mylk Latte is a great start to the day after a hike or run. I usually hand them a Funk Zone Map and circle all the small business stores that make this area in SB special. I am privileged because I have a family that emotionally supports my art and knows it brings me great joy to create and be part of the Santa Barbara community of small business owners. I am an Artist more than I am a business person which helps define my goals and find great joy in the process vs the squeeze and financial outcome. I am in the business of making Art and having a place to create, display and provide gifts for all the wanderers that enter my studio. Why? Work life balance is imperative to my happiness and success. Although Covid-19 has challenged this of late, I have been able to shape shift my business model and that has helped me survive (as a business and mentally as a person!) during these difficult times.
